Alessandro
De Martino was born in Patras. He studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts
in Florence and Graphic design in Rome, in 1996 he received an award at
the competition for Artists from Patras for drawing, in 1997 he was
awarded for his exhibition "The Vehicle of the Soul" from the Greek
French Association, in Athens he has also been awarded with an award from the
Municipality of Patras for the his contribution to the cultural events
of the city in 1998 and in 2001, while in 1998 for his contribution in
the naval week he was awarded by the Chief of GEN and the Navy Commander
of the WN of the Ionian. Since 1987 till today, he continuously draws
and simultaneously he has taught at the University of Fine Arts in
Patras (deanary program), at public Institutes in Patras, Aigio and
Mesologgi, at A.K.T.O. (Athens) at AKMI Group, in schools of Achaia
County and at his Art School, which opened in 1987
He has organised and worked at the Visual Studio of the Municipality of Rio and has worked as a Visual Artist (2008-2012) at the Centre for Education Sciences. At the same time he has also held 40 art exhibitions, of which 20 of them were personal.
As the Professor of Fine Arts of Florence, Renato Alberti, said about Alessandro De Martino:"...His faces and the abrupt, staccato, colored forms , remind us of the melancholic figures of Kirchner at the after midnight cabarets of Berlin with an erotism that surges from agony, desperation and fear..." while the Art historian of the Aristotle University of Salonica, Koutsi Lambrini notices that: "... his whole artistic creation is based on the belief that art with its optimistic visions is the only satisfying response to the existential agonies of the modern person..." finally, in the newspaper "Peloponnese" Panagiotis Rigopoulos, on the ocasion of his exhibition, "Factory of Values" writes: "...he manages with with a consummate style and futuristic symbolisms, to express his agony, for the pathetic stance that people are asked to hold towards the continually growing world of overconsumption of material and spiritual standarized goods..." We could say that the purpose of his drawings is to express the human emotions, which constitute the basic element of the definition of reality.
Some of his most important exhibitions are, at the Gallery of the City Hall at Pirgos 1995, at the French School at Volos 1995, "The Vehicle of The Soul" (Greek French Association, Athens 1997), at the Cultural Place of the Municipality of Kifisia, Athens 1998, "Kifea's Timeless Journey" (The Old municipal Hospital of Patras 1999), at ELEMENTS Gallery in Kolonaki Athens 2000, "False oracles" (Municipal Gallery of Nafplio 2000), "Internal Flight" (The Old municipal Hospital of Patras2001), at the AENAON Gallery, Athens 2002, "Mass Disposal Machine" (Politeia Place, Patras 2002), IOS Gallery, Athens 2002, "Under the Old Walls" (Castle of Rio, 2010)
Finally he is a founding member of the Association of Visual Artists of Patras.
